This Multiple units train was developed in late 50s and started service in 1961, with the first generation train.
At that time, FS were just outside the emergency plan after the second world war. This train was meant to be an high speed / prestige modular train, designed for maximum speed of 180 - 200 km/h.
The idea was to have a train that could have reached different destinations (from the same start point), uncoupling (or coupling) the train's units when there was the need. One example was the "Peloritano" train, being divided in 3 before the final destinations.

The electric units are rheostatic, that means that the speed/power regulation is obtained by regulating a resistance (rheostat) in series with the engines. The engines themselves are connected in "serie" two by two. They can be connected in "serie" configuration, "serie-parallelo" and "parallelo". Another speed regulation is obtained, after the entire rheostat is excluded, by operating shunts on engine's coil: it will work with a lower number of coil spires, resulting in an overboost of the engine.
The entire regulation of power is done automatically.
Engines installed are the same of ETR 220 and ETR 300 trains: T165 FS.
Braking was pneumatic and electric.
It was an excellent train. Talking about speed records, some units were modified to reach the speed of 250km/h; during a test, this train went up to 278km/h.
In 1992, they received "Alitalia" livery and started a special service called "volo di superficie" (literally, fly over ground) to connect Rome to Florence.
In 1998 some trains have been modified to create Ale 841 EMU trains, a fast regional train composed by 4 pieces.
At the same time, other units have been modified to get automatic doors and other stuff, becoming Ale 603 / 783 group (not included in the pack).

Ale 601 carrer ended in 2006. They are all demolished, except a set of 8 units that are preserved for historical events.

Special thanks to DomTrain for the sound set!

FS Ale 801/940 EMU Train

#2 Post by Danny » 18 Apr 2020, 22:33

FS Ale 801/940 EMU Train

FS Ale 801

This train is an evolution of the Ale 803 train. It was intended to be a lightweight commuter train, with a good power rating. It was also meant to be coupled rapidly, in case of high clients affluence, with 2 other trains, making a 12 pieces final train.
Both front and end units are motorized, making this train a Bo Bo + 2' 2' + 2' 2' + Bo Bo train.

This emu train is rheostatic, that means that the speed/power regulation is obtained by regulating a resistance (rheostat) in series with the engines.
Braking was pneumatic and electric.
Normal composition of this train is Ale 801 + Le 108 + Le 108 + Ale 940.

Those trains were completely retired in 2015. They're actually waiting for demolition.
Two trains are actually still in service for LFI (la Ferrovia Italiana), a country-side railway corporation located in Tuscany that keeps using very old trains for passenger transports (They also have used Emus as freight locomotives   ).

This train is available in 4 pieces composition.
Le 108 coach is also available as a normal passenger car.

FS Ale 841 EMU Train

ale 841

This train is obtained by a substancial modification of the original good project of the Ale 601.
The train is set up by 2 electric units and 2 coach cars: Ale 841 + Le 761 + Le 561 + Ale 841
All the units are 2nd class cars, insted of Le 561 which is 1st class
The head and tail emus are obtained by "cutting" out one of the side cabs of the ale 601.
Same happened for the coach cars, obtained by completely removing driving cabins.
Old rotating doors were replaced with sliding one.
In 1994 FS developed a project for an "high" speed regional train for a maximum speed of 160km/h. This train was, more or less, the half way from a local transport train and an intercity.
They have been modified and started service from 1998, with all the modifications ended in 2004. In 2014 they were all retired and being actually demolished, so it was a pretty useless waste of money  Typical of Italy.

This emu train is rheostatic, that means that the speed/power regulation is obtained by regulating a resistance (rheostat) in series with the engines. The engines themselves are connected in "serie" two by two. They can be connected in "serie" configuration, "serie-parallelo" and "parallelo". The entire regulation of power is done automatically.
Braking was pneumatic and electric.

This train is available in 4 pieces composition.

ale 803 mk2

Train was developed in 1961 by the same project of the Ale 601
In the early 60s, commuter trains traffic was increasing and FS literally didn't have real commuter trains for that.
The Ale 803 train was obtained by modifications to the original 601 train.
Speed was regulated to 130km/h (more than enough at that time). Each unit had 3 wide doors instead of 2 for each side, seats were made by fiberglass and were pretty cheap. Many parts of the train, such as boogies, were spare parts coming from other older trains, for a question of economy. In fact, this train had a load of problems from the beginning.
In the 1970, next generation train Ale 801/940 was developed and many newer parts from that train were installed on this one, to solve beginning failures.

Ale 803 is rheostatic electric unit, that means that the speed/power regulation is obtained by regulating a resistance (rheostat) in series with the engines.
Braking was pneumatic and electric.
Normal composition of this train is Ale 803 + Le 803 + Le 803 remote unit.

Those trains were completely retired in 2015. They are all demolished.

This train is available in a set of 2 composition. Both of them are 3 pieces trains, making the first gen and second gen trains. Differences are just visual.
Le 803 coach is also available as normal passengers car.

That's because you are using a mod to "extract" locomotive and coaches from multiple unit.

I've made the train to be in a fixed composition of 4 units. If you wish more, you have to couple 2 trains, that it was used to happen in italy.

Which train are you talking about btw? Ale 801/940? (a guy is doing xmpr livery for this)

Oh yeah, I know the feeling. Maybe Metro B could be a future project. Metro A and Metro B with MB100 trains and CAF

very future, actually useless tbh :(

What a wonderful realization of one of the most iconic italian EMUs!!! Thank you so much for your attention to italian trains, they are generally neglected in railway simulations.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

All those trains have been updated:

- Ale 601 received small bug fixes; I've also added 4 train compositions: Peloritano, Freccia della Laguna, Marco Polo and Mercadante trains.

- Ale 801/940 added xmpr livery, available from 1998
- Ale 803 (second serie) added xmpr livery, available from 1998
- Ale 841 added xmpr livery, available from 2001

:-FR IMPORTANT: Remember to remove old mod folders

Thanks Manushinto27 for the repaints

Hope you will enjoy this "Beautifull" new livery. Very pretty looking colors for italian trains
